Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation CEO Pledges Dedication to Sustainable Tourism Practices at ITB Berlin ’24

Fathmath Thaufeeq, CEO and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), recently reinforced the Maldives government’s dedication to sustainable and inclusive development in the tourism sector. Her commitment was voiced during the Maldives Media Meet, an event held alongside ITB Berlin 2024.


In her address, Thaufeeq celebrated the significant achievements within the Maldives’ tourism sector, notably surpassing pre-pandemic visitor numbers with over 1.8 million tourists last year, highlighting the global appeal of Maldives holidays. She acknowledged the shift in traveler preferences and the MMPRC’s strategy to diversify Maldives holidays by promoting new tourism segments such as cultural, sports, and medical tourism. These initiatives aim to broaden the appeal of the Maldives to a wider array of visitors, beyond the traditional Maldives hotels and resort experiences.


The CEO shared plans to enhance the tourism infrastructure with the introduction of more transit hotels in the Greater Male’ region, catering to the needs of short-stay travellers and those on stopovers, further boosting Maldives’ position as a top travel destination. Efforts will also focus on the southern regions, promising economic and social benefits for local communities.


Thaufeeq highlighted the administration’s focus on empowering women within the tourism sector, indicating a move towards more equitable participation. These comprehensive development plans underscore the MMPRC’s commitment to promoting Maldives holidays and Maldives hotels as part of a responsible and inclusive tourism strategy that benefits visitors and residents alike.
